Gare de Nord

Bucharest's main train station - and the only one you'll need, regardless of where you're headed - is Gare de Nord. Named after Paris' more famous Gare du Nord, Buch's train station was constructed to be an exact replica of Paris' on the outside, and if it weren't for the stray dogs (the most aggressive in Bucharest!) and kids huffing paint, we'd almost be convinced. Gare de Nord has 24 hour left luggage, bankomats, cafes, a McDonalds, newsstands and many dubious characters. There's a handy metro station below the place that can get you wherever you need to go, or take trolleybus 85 from outside the station to Piata Universitatii. Beware of pickpockets, con men and hoodwink taxi drivers. Also don't expect any of the ticket sellers to speak English... |
