New Terminal for Bucharest Airport
After two years of construction work, the airport serving Romania’s capital can now boast a second, modern passenger terminal. The 60 million euro terminal at the Henri Coanda or Otopeni airport was opened by the Romanian Prime Minister, Emil Boc, who welcomed a flight from Brussels.
With 24 gates and over 16 000 square metres of space, the new terminal will increase the airport’s passenger capacity to 6 million per year. This is a 1.5 million passenger increase from the 2010 figures.
With this new addition, Romania hopes to be accepted into the visa-free European Schengen zone.
