Romania to Tax Witches
The Romanian government has decided to tax fortune tellers, witches, and astrologers, despite earlier plans to omit taxation of the country’s many practitioners of the magical arts. The new tax law is part of a larger attempt at cracking down on tax evasion and bring in larger revenue to the country.
Many witches have welcomed the change in law, saying the move legitimizes their profession. Others have (quite literally) cursed the new law, casting spells on the government and throwing poisonous mandrake into the Danube river.
Witches, just as all other self-employed Romanians, will now have to pay 16 per cent income tax and contribute to health and pension programs.
